Once you lock in the color changes on the Playlist, since these are connected to the mixer, it should auto link to the mixer and those colors will change also. See this image to see what it should look like if you're doing it right. It should give you a gradient option of First to Last. Once you have your group selected, right click any of the selected tracks on the left, and choose 'Change color'. Then in the Playlist/Arrangement window, hold CTRL + SHIFT and click all the tracks on the far left side, until you see green rectangles lit up for all of the ones you want selected. Thanks, if you want to do it, set all your stuff up so all Mixer channels are sent to 'Audio Tracks' on the playlist, and make sure they are in the same order you want the gradient to go down the playlist and the mixer. You get to make the DAW more uniquely you. I think building your own template from scratch is the way to go because you know your own workflow and how you want to do things more than anyone. Some of the stuff that just takes a little extra time is adding colors/icons and stuff but that's just a personal touch. Those types of decisions are things that are good to throw into a template. If you always start with a hi pass cut EQ on your hats/cymbals to remove everything below 500Hz, go ahead and bake it in. Then when you start finding, you always sidechain the kicks against the 808s or whatever, maybe set up that relationship and save it into the template. This alone is an organization step that just sets you up for success going forward because you'll be way more focused and your projects start becoming so much cleaner. I really do recommend though, take a bit of time to at the very least set up your mixer into groups/buses if you use them, name them, and send each named Mixer to an Audio Track in the playlist. As much as I like to help people out, I don't personally want to hand my template out at this point (maybe one day if I get to the point I have a website selling sample packs and synth preset packs and resources). I've spent like 2 years slowly building mine out, slowly adding things that work for me that I tend to do in almost every project. There's enough 3rd party stuff baked into my template, that it's hard to share in its current form. Stuff like my own 808 preset built in Serum is in my template.

It's a bit personalized since I have stuff like my hardware synth routed, custom drum samples dropped into my FPC, loaded with some 3rd party plugins like SoundID, Tonal Balance Control, and FabFilter Pro Q3s, some of which are linked to one another for dynamic EQ sidechaining. I always go back to it and my best creative work has all been in FL. It’s that good.įL for me is just so beautifully simple or complex.

The piano roll and the native slide feature in FL are second to none, they are incredibly powerful.įL has a tonne of content for you to create something with, there’s sooooo much in the box that I tend to install Serum and then I’m sorted. For me, the visual style for the instruments and FX make it easier for me to learn their plugins. Logic is the middle ground of the two, but the main attractive feature for me is that it’s Apple so it’s super optimised for my Mac.įL is the one I keep going back to. The UI for Ableton does have downfalls, like the fact that every instrument/FX look identical and make things that should be used for expression feel quite mechanical. I love how Ableton FX are track level not channel/instrument level - as well as having everything visible on the UI at once for quick tuning. I own most of the major DAWs (Ableton Live Suite 11, FL and Logic Pro)
